For those who are interested and live in Australia, I recently did filming with the team from the tv show Totally Wild. I will be hosting the show with presenter, Adam Cox, to promote squash in Australia. At this stage it will be aired on the 30th July but I will blog if anything changes. Filming the programme was fun and cheesy as. So check out what time Totally Wild airs during the day and check it out on the 30th July
So its been 4 weeks since I arrived in Australia and Ive been getting some good training in (as well as having fun). Ive had the chance to work with the likes of Rod Martin, Rod Eyles and Byron Davis during my time at the AIS in Brisbane. There is a big squad at the moment, with Melody Francis and the Under 19 mens junior team currently visiting. My program consists of 3 running sessions, 3 gym sessions and 5 squash sessions per week. I have another 3 weeks in Brissy before I visit my family and fly from Sydney to New York. I certainly am making the most of my time at home.
Sorry its been a while since Ive updated. I had to keep my Australia trip a secret because I wanted to surprise my family on the Anzac day long weekend. I flew back into Australia on the 22nd April and organised for my brother and sister to travel home so the whole family could be together, which was the first time in 4 and a half years since we'd all been together. I had a great weekend and always love coming home. I travelled back up to Brisbane to train with the Australian Institute of Sport and will be here for the next 5 weeks. After such a crazy scheule, it is nice to be in one place for a while. I am enjoying the training and trying to fit in as much as I can while I am back. (I bought a dual sports motorbike last weekend and I love it)
Anyway will update soon and put some pics up of Australia, best country in the world (you know it)
It felt like a long time since I played my first round match but tonight I played the quarter final against Madeline Perry on the impresive glass court of Cayman Island. Unfortunately I was defeated in a tight 3/1 match. I came out strong, winning the first game 11/3, but lost the second, 8/11. I made too many errors at the start of the third and fourth games which I felt let me down in the long run. However, I felt like I was constantly putting pressure on Madeline and attacking the ball more than she was, but just couldn't put the ball away on the hot and bouncy courts. Although I lost, I feel like I can take some positives from the match.
At this point, I dont have any tournaments until the middle of July where I will play a run of major events, including the Malaysian, Singapore and Australian Opens. However, I will keep you posted if my schedule changes.
In my first round match I was drawn to play Low Wee Wern of Malaysia who had beaten her two previous opponents in 3 games. We were scheduled to play at 12.15pm when the sun is at its brightest and makes some pretty hot conditions on the squash court. I knew it would be a tough game because Wee Wern is a very solid player, making few errors and has some great retrieving skills. My game plan was to stay in front of the young Malaysian and keep attacking, which worked well until the end of the 3rd game where I made some bad decisions with 3 match balls and ended up losing it in the tie break. No wanting to make the same mistake in the 4th game, I played well to get the early lead and ended up winning that game comfortably. I now have a day off tomorrow before I play Madeline Perry from Ireland, in the quarter finals on Thursday night. xx
