So I won my match tonight against Samantha Teran 11/9 11/8 11/8. I just tried to focus on staying relaxed in the match and it seemed to work well. It meant though, that I didn't volley as much, but I was hitting it a lot tighter and moved her around better. I think it is a matter of finding a balance between being relaxed and putting pressure on by volleying. It is quite bouncy on the glass court and is hard to find the ball when it is up high in the lights. I play Natlaie Grinham tomorrow night so I will let you know how I go.
It was extremely hot on court during my midday match but I managed to get a win over the Dane in 3 sets. It was tough though with the ball bouncing all over the shop. It was also Line's birthday so I felt a little guilty that I ruined her day.
Quarters - Nat Grainger 9/11 7/11 7/11
After practicing in the morning, I was going nuts resting in my room until my 7.45 pm match, especially in the Carribean. I passed the time with some study and mucking around with a soccer ball. Anyway, it was time to play and we walked onto court with music blasting. Im not sure what song was playing when I walked out but I had to laugh when the South African born an now US representative walked onto court with Bruce Springstein's 'Born in the USA'. I felt like I played well against the world number 2 and was leading 9/5 in the first game, but then got tense and made some silly errors to lose the first 11/9. I needed to stay relaxed but unfortunately was down 0/1. I stayed in the next two games but Grainger found her lethal short game and won those crucial points. I just need to stay a bit more relaxed on court for my next tournament.
So I have two more days in Cayman. Lisa 'Camel' Camilleri and I are training this morning then going to find our way to the beach for some jetskiing, then are doing some junior clinics this afternoon. Tomorrow we leave for Texas for the next tournament but before we leave, we are going to Stingray City to swim with some rays. Should be fun and I heard they are enormous.
Anyway I will write again soon (I hope my mum reminds me ha)
I've arrived in Cayman and wow! it is paradise. Im staying at the hotel across the road from an amazing beach when the sand is white and the water is bluer than blue. It is like you are looking at a postcard. I have had a few practices now and it is hot on court. The people are lovely here and are very supportive of the tournament. I am looking forward to playing my first round against Line Hanson of Denmark. Will let you know the result
Since April 1st, my contract with Grays has finished. I have appreciated their support over the last eight years and believe it has been a successful partnership. Within this last week, I have signed a contract with Harrow and am looking forward to working with the company. So anyone reading this, go out and buy a Harrow racket ;)
Montreal is cold!!! I came back to this tournament that I love. The members at the club are amazing. I played my first round against Latasha Khan. Although I won in 3, it was a tough match, with Latasha hitting some great kills from the back court. That meant I came up against Samantha Teran in the quarter finals. It was a massive grind in which I won 3/1 with 3 of the games ended 13/11. The match went for about 90mins. I came up against an in form Natalie Grainger who recently beat Nicol David in Malaysia. It seems my quarter final match took it out of me and my legs werent responding well. Grainger played amazing and I lost in 3. Her pace and shot game was far too good on the day.
I head back to NY tomorrow for a 4 week block of training. I am looking forward to getting back into training and will keep you updated on how its going.
